Vidushi Uma Garg

Presently a much sought after artiste, Uma’s music represents a unique blend of the best of various Gharanas, embellished with her own personal touch.

Though trained basically in Khayal Gayaki, her versatility encompasses the lighter realms of Classical Music. She is equally at ease with other genres such as Thumri, Dadra, Sufi, Ghazal, Geet and Bhajans. She is a regular artiste in Classical & Light Music of A.I.R and Doordarshan.

Uma has performed extensively all over the country & abroad under the aegis of numerous musical organizations. In addition, she has lent her voice for playback singing in regional cine films of diverse languages. She undertook the difficult task of singing the four hundred Verses written in prakrita bhasha of the religious book of the Jains - Samaya Sar. She has also sung in many T.V. Serials.

Apart from being an eminent musician, Uma is a distinguished scholar too with a number of articles, research papers and books to her credit. She has participated in a number of Seminars & given many lecture demonstrations throughout India & abroad. She has also guided more than a dozen of PhDs.

Formerly, Vidushi Uma was the Dean & Head at the Faculty of Music & Fine Arts, University of Delhi.
