Pandit Harashankar Bhattacharya

Pandit Harashankar Bhattacharya was born in a musical family having the 3rd generation. His grandfather was "Sitari" Lalmohon Bhattacharya. He started his learning sitar from his father Late Ganga Shankar Bhattacharya and started playing at the tender age of five .After that he was under the guidance of Late Murali Dhar Thakur of Bisnu pure Gharana, Burnpure.

From the year 1968 He went to Mumbai and started taking TALEEM from The sitar legend PADMABHUSHAN USTAD ABDUL HALIM JAFFER KHAN SAHAB of Indore gharana , Beenkar Style. He was there under a strict guidance of Ustad ji to absorb the special Bazz ~ named Jaffer Khani Bazz staying with him at his residence.

Pandit Harashankar Bhattacharya is universally acknowledged as a sitarist par excellence. He occupies a pre-eminent position among the leading Sitarist of India.mRight from the early stages he was at the top in subsequent competitions such as All India Music competition organized by Prayog Sangeet Samitee Allahabad, Bharati Bhaban Burnpur, Kulti, Adra, All India Music Competition organized by AIR, Calcutta, etc.

He received so many awards and felicitation in his career from his early age. "Sur Singer Samsad" a famous organization of Mumbai awarded him "Sur Moni" title. Prayog Sangeet Samity of Allahabad also honored him with the title of "Sangeet Praveen". He is empaneled artist of ICCR. Now this list of awards is pretty huge.

Pandit Hara Shankar Bhattacharya is a regular artiste of grade "A" in AIR and TV and has taken part in several classical conferences all over India and abroad. He visited USSR, Nepal and Bhutan and embossed his name in the heart of listeners. He went there as a cultural Delegates from india.

He was attached with Shri Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra of Delhi. Then he shifted to Kolkata and started working in Information and cultural Affairs of Govt. Of West Bengal as a senior most sitarist. He worked as a Music director in "APNA UTSAV" (Festival organized by Govt. Of West Bengal).

Hara Shankar is a regular examiner of RABINDRA BHARATI UNIVERSITY and attached with many other top level organizations all over india.

His soft and delicate style coupled with the precision, clarity, and consistency of tabla playing embodies the true virtuosity of a talented musician.
